Bovine response to lipoarabinomannan vaccination and challenge with Mycobacterium paratuberculosis BJM
Jolly,Ana; Morsella,Claudia; Bass,Laura; Fiorentino,María Andrea; Paolicchi,Fernando Alberto; Mundo,Silvia Leonor.
This study aimed to evaluate the immune response in bovines following immunization with a mycobaterial Lipoarabinomannan extract (LAMe) and the effect of Map challenge. LAMe vaccine induced specific antibody levels that diminished after the challenge and affected Map excretion at least for 100 days thereafter.

Humoral immune response in adult Brazilian patients with Mucolipidosis III gamma Genet. Mol. Biol.
Sperb-Ludwig,Fernanda; Alegra,Taciane; Velho,Renata Voltolini; Ludwig,Nataniel; Siebert,Marina; Jobim,Mariana; Vairo,Filippo; Schwartz,Ida V. D..
Abstract Mucolipidosis II and III (ML II and III) alpha/beta and ML III gamma are lysosomal diseases caused by GlcNAc-1-phosphotransferase deficiency. Previous data indicate that MLII patients have functionally impaired immune system that contributes to predisposition to infections. We evaluated the immunological phenotype of three Brazilian patients with ML III gamma. Our data suggest that the residual activity of GlcNAc-1-phosphotransferase in patients with ML III gamma is enough to allow the targeting of the lysosomal enzymes required for B-cell functions maintenance.

Humoral immune response in cattle experimentally infested with larvae of Dermatobia Hominis Ciência Rural
Barbosa,Celso Guimarães; Sanavria,Argemiro; Freire,Ronald Bastos.
Six bovines were infested with 60 first instar larvae of Dermatobia hominis. The animals were bleed weekly, and their antibodies levels to D. hominis L1, L2 and L3 instars measured during the time, following the infestation course. The antisera were submitted to a titration against optimal dilutions of antigen coated wells of microplates, previously sensitized with L1, L2 and L3 preparations, respectively. The ELISA assay was used to test single dilutions of antisera, which results were comparatively analyzed with a control of not infested animals. Antibodies against L1 were detected between the first and 21st day post-infestation (DPI) and, from the 42nd DPI on. Anti-L2 antibodies, could be detected on the 21st DPI and from the 35th DPI until...

Humoral immune response in dogs and cats vaccinated against rabies in southeastern Brazil J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Albas,Avelino; Picolo,Miléia Ricci; Soares,Célio Nereu; Bachega,Hugo Vagner Ulbano; Tarumoto,Mário Hissamitsu.
Background Brazil holds annual nationwide public campaigns to vaccinate dogs and cats against rabies. The presence of rabies antibodies in these animals, which are among the main transmitters of rabies to humans, is a good indicator that they are immunized and protected. Methods In the present study we analyzed 834 serum samples from dogs and cats from the Southeast of Brazil (Presidente Prudente and Dracena cities), 12 months after the 2009 vaccination campaign. We used the technique known as rapid fluorescent focus inhibition test (RFFIT) and considered reactant those sera with values higher 0.5 IU/mL. Results and discussion Reactant sample results in Presidente Prudente were 153 (51.0%) for dogs and 59 (32.6%) for cats, and in Dracena 110 (52.1%) for...

Immunomodulatory action of jacalin from Artocarpus integrifolia and mannoprotein from Saccharomyces uvarum on the humoral immunity of laying hens Ciência Rural
Silva,Marco Aurélio Chiara; Silva,Miriele Caroline da; Pinheiro,João Waine; Castro-Goméz,Raul Jorge Hernan; Murakami,Alice Eiko; Loyola,Wagner; Venancio,Emerson José.
ABSTRACT: Advances in the fields of glycobiology and immunology have provided many insights into the role of carbohydrate-protein interactions in the immune system. Jacalin of Artocarpus integrifolia (JCA) and structural mannoprotein of Saccharomyces uvarum (MPS) are molecules with immunomodulatory properties. JCA is an IgA human lectin binding molecule that causes the mitogenic stimulation of immune cells, production of cytokines, chemotaxis, and activation of leukocytes. Studies on the immunomodulatory properties of JCA and MPS in mammals and fish suggest that they have an action on antibody production. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible action of JCA and MPS on the production of specific antibodies in laying hens. For this, laying...
